News: 2 lives claimed, 4 injured in Tampa crash with trash truck

TAMPA, FL – Two men lost their lives, and four people were sent to the hospital after a multi-vehicle wreck caused by a trash truck driver Monday.

The events started around 1 p.m., when the truck operator had rear-ended a minivan on North 50th Street, according to ABC Action News

After the initial rear-end collision, the truck driver then struck a man in his 20s and then hit three more vehicles.

EMS crews declared the man in his 20s dead at the scene. Prior to getting struck by the truck, he was working on taking a sign down.

Ambulance personnel transported the minivan driver, the two minivan passengers, and the two other drivers to a hospital. There, the minivan motorist, a man in his 60s, suffered fatal injuries while the two other drivers were being treated for minor injuries.

The minivan passengers were children. One of them was listed in serious condition, while the other was not disclosed.

The truck driver was given a “court summons for careless driving resulting in death.”
