News: 4 hurt in I-275 chain-reaction wreck involving dump truck

TAMPA, FL – A chain reaction collision on I-275 led a Kenworth garbage truck to overturn, leading it to spill sand and diesel fuel, resulting in four people sustaining injuries Wednesday.

WFLA said the events of the crash unfolded before 7:45 a.m. when a driver of a Ford F-150 struck the back of a Ford F250. The motorist of the Ford F250 had allegedly failed to reduce their speed, resulting in the rear end. When both pickup trucks collided, they then crashed into a concrete wall.

The Ford F150 driver then struck a Dodge Challenger and then into the dump truck, which led the Challenge and garbage truck to roll over.

News: SUV driver hurt in crash with semi near Orient Rd. Jail

TAMPA, FL – An SUV driver was seriously hurt in a crash involving a semi-truck that happened south of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Orient Road Jail Friday.

WTSP said this collision occurred at the East Adamo Drive and Orient Road junction, and Tampa Police responded to the crash after 5:30 p.m. Police immediately shut down the eastbound lanes (located between Maydell Drive and Orient Road) after arriving.

It is not immediately clear when lanes reopened if the driver was transported to an area hospital, and what exactly led to this collision.

News: Driver hurt in Gibsonton tractor-trailer jackknife crash

GIBSONTON, FL – A tractor-trailer driver lost control of their truck, leading it to jackknife and them to crash into a barrier wall on I-75 North after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

WTSP said the force of the collision caused fuel to spill from the truck, resulting in crews shutting down the northbound lanes to contain the spill. The motorist sustained minor injuries, and officials did not reveal whether they were sent to a hospital for treatment or as a precaution.

News: Semi rollover crash on I-4 in causes major delays, lane closures

PLANT CITY, FL – A semi-truck rolled over and landed on its side on I-4 West, resulting in all lane closures for the westbound directions and significant delays.

Fox 13 News said that injuries were sustained. However, it is unclear how many people were hurt and what exactly led to this crash.

Crash involving Amtrak train, semi-truck in Lakeland injures 8

LAKELAND, FL – Right people were hospitalized after an Amtrak train collided with a semi-truck in Lakeland last Friday night.

According to WESH, the train, bound for New York, hit the semi-truck as it was stopped on the tracks crossing North Canal Avenue, just south of US-92.

In total, eight victims were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. It is unclear whether the truck driver suffered injuries as a result of the crash.

Van Driver Killed in Crash with Semi Truck in Tampa | Tampa Truck Accident Lawyers Whittel & Melton

A Tampa man was killed Monday after his van was involved in a crash with a semi truck on Fowler Avenue in Tampa Bay.

The 58-year-old man behind the wheel of the van was travelling east on Fowler around 10:30 p.m. when he failed to navigate a curve in the road. The Florida Highway Patrol said the van exited the roadway and crossed the median right into the path of a big rig that was heading north.

The van became stuck under the semi truck and eventually came to a stop near the west shoulder of southbound 301.

Three Teens Killed in Head-On Collision with Semi Truck

Three teens are dead after a head-on crash with a semi-tractor trailer on U.S. 92 early Saturday morning in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A 17-year-old from Dover and his 15-year-old passenger were killed in the crash.

A second passenger, 14, was transported to the hospital in critical condition but died on Sunday from his injuries.

At around 12:38 a.m., the teen was driving a 2008 Ford Escape going westbound on U.S. 92, west of Turkey Creek Road, when for some unknown reason he crossed the centerline of the road and struck head-on with a 2005 semi-tractor trailer, driven by a 61-year-old man, according to FHP.

The driver and the female passenger died at the scene and the 14-year-old passenger had to be airlift to Tampa General Hospital.

The semi-truck driver was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical in serious condition.

FHP stated that all involved in the crash were not under the influence of alcohol, however the teens were not wearing their seatbelts.

Currently, there are no charges pending.

This accident highlights just how critical it is to wear your seatbelt every time you get in a vehicle. Statistics show that seat belts save lives. When used correctly, wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger car occupants by 45%, and risk of moderate-to-critical injury by 50%. For those riding in the back of a larger vehicle, like a truck or SUV, seat belts are shown to be 73% better at preventing fatalities. The sad reality is that victims are not properly restrained in more than one-half of all fatal car accidents. Likewise, children are likely to be buckled 92% of the time when adults in the car use seat belts, as opposed to 72% of the time when adults do not buckle up.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), many Americans understand the lifesaving value of the seat belt as the national use rate was at 90.7% in 2019. Seat belt use in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 14,955 lives in 2017.

In 2017, 37,133 people were killed in motor vehicle crashes in 2017. Of those, 47% were not wearing seat belts, according to the NHTSA. In 2017 alone, seat belts saved an estimated 14,955 lives and could have saved an additional 2,549 people if they had been wearing seat belts.

Drivers should know the risks of operating a vehicle when they get inside. Cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs can be dangerous, whether you are buckled up or not. 2 Dead, 5 Injured in Overnight Fiery I-75 Semi Crash

Sharing the road with large trucks can be frightening, and also very dangerous. Large trucks, including semis and tractor trailers, are particularly dangerous when they are traveling too close to the cars in front of them at a high rate of speed. If you have ever experienced this while driving on a highway then you know exactly how terrifying it can be, especially when you are in a smaller vehicle. When trucks are travelling along side you it is crucial to avoid the truck’s blind spots and to make sure that you keep a safe distance from the truck. However, sometimes there are no warning signs that a truck is driving too fast or too closely to your vehicle and there is no way to avoid being struck by one of these large vehicles. Sadly, this is exactly what happened on I-75 in Hillsborough County in a truck crash where two people were killed.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 just past Bruce B. Downs Boulevard were reopened Thursday morning after a fiery semi truck crash that left two people dead and five others injured Wednesday night.

The lanes were reopened just before 8 a.m., more than 12 hours after the crash, which happened just before 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

At least eight vehicles were involved in the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of the semi could not slow down in time to avoid the traffic ahead that had slowed to an almost stop. The semi plowed into multiple vehicles and collided with a pillar for an overhead roadway sign on the outside shoulder.

The semi and another vehicle became engulfed in flames. Both those drivers died. Troopers have not released the names of the people killed.

Crews were finally able to remove the semi just after 7 a.m. and reopened the lanes. Cleanup has continued along the side of the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation.

Spilled Gravel Causes Cars To Crash On I4, 1 Man In Serious Condition

A 24-year-old man is in serious condition after a multi-vehicle crash on I-4 in Hillsborough County Tuesday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol believes a truck traveling northbound on the crosstown connector entered the ramp to travel eastbound on I-4 and spilled a large amount of gravel onto the roadway, causing two vehicles to lose control and collide with the barrier wall.

According to the FHP report, the 24-year-old man got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage and was hit by a third vehicle. The impact caused the man to fall over the wall 33 feet to the ground below. He is in serious condition at Tampa General Hospital.

The other two drivers did not suffer any injuries.

Due to the accidents and spilled gravel, the ramp was closed for several hours.

FHP is asking anyone with information on the truck that spilled the gravel to call 813-631-4020.
