by

NEAR PLANT CITY, FL – An ambulance driver collided with an on-coming semi-truck north of Plant City, causing the ambulance to overturn and later claiming a 64-year-old woman’s life Friday.

The collision occurred after 11:30 p.m., when the ambulance driver, going east on McGee Road, struck the big rig traveling north on FL 39, WTSP said. Once the vehicles collided, the semi-truck jackknifed, and the ambulance flipped over. Photos showed significant damage done to the truck’s front cab.

Florida Highway Patrol and additional EMS crews were summoned to the scene. First responders rushed the 64-year-old woman, who was riding in the impacted ambulance, the ambulance driver, and the other EMS worker to a hospital.

The woman, a Plant City local, later passed away. The EMS assistant, 47, and the ambulance operator, 26, are recovering from non-life-threatening wounds, while the truck driver was unharmed.

Troopers confirmed the affected ambulance was affiliated with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Ambulance (HCFRA). At this time, HCFA has not released a formal statement regarding additional information about Friday’s wreck.
