TAMPA, FL – A driver of a white Honda was intentionally running over four pedestrians, which led to a pursuit-turned-shooting, which ultimately claimed the driver’s life and injured several others Sunday.

The events unfolded around 8:30 p.m. at a Dollar General Store located at 6508 South Dale Mabry Highway, BayNews9 reports.

The male Honda driver, 47, was using his Honda to try and prevent one person, a man, from leaving. The two argued, and then that man left. After the argument, the 47-year-old man followed the man to some resident buildings near West Meadow Street and South MacDill Avenue. The 47-year-old man ran over the person, who sustained minor injuries.

The victim’s friend tried to shoot him, and the 47-year-old man fled. As he continued driving on northbound MacDill Avenue, he struck another male pedestrian, who was left in critical condition.

The 47-year-old man had also hit another male pedestrian at the 5800 block of Interbay Boulevard, who had died. Shortly after, the man struck another male walker at the intersection of West Shore Boulevard and Lemon Street. That pedestrian appeared to have been spared from injuries but was still taken to a hospital as a precaution.

Tampa Police received calls about the incidents and were able to locate the suspect, who was driving on I-275 North. They performed a PIT maneuver, which allowed the suspect’s car to come to rest. The suspect got out of his vehicle and allegedly reached for something, prompting a response from the three officers who shot him. The suspect died, and the three officers had to go to the hospital for minor wounds.

The officers were placed on administrative leave, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) said an investigation had been launched. The suspect’s name and the names of the pedestrians were not released.
