DOVER, FL – A 16-year-old teenager lost his life, and six teenagers were injured as a result of a two-vehicle collision on I-4 Wednesday, Fox 13 News reports.

Florida Highway Patrol said the crash, reported at 11 p.m., happened after a 16-year-old boy, driving a Dodge SUV, tried to merge into another lane and struck a Cadillac CTS.

Troopers said the Dodge SUV driver, a 16-year-old boy from Temple Terrace, and four other passengers in the SUV sustained minor injuries. One passenger, a 16-year-old boy, did not wear a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in the SUV were left in serious condition.

The Cadillac driver, a 17-year-old boy from Tampa, was unharmed.

Crews shut down all lanes and reopened the area around 6 a.m. Thursday.
