News: Man, 64, loses life as semi crashes into Tampa Bypass Canal

by

TAMPA, FL – A 64-year-old man operating a semi-truck plowed into the Tampa Bypass Canal from I-75, leading to his death Monday, Click Orlando said.

This collision occurred after 2:30 a.m. when the driver of the semi lost control of the truck, which caused the truck to hit the concrete barrier before going over the wall. As a result, the cab separated, and the trailer hung from the bridge and went into the canal.

Divers from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were able to recover the man’s body, which fell 40 feet below the surface and was declared dead.

Florida Highway Patrol does not publically announce the names of individuals who pass away in collisions or personal injury-related incidents but confirmed the motorist was from Missipi.
