WIMAUMA, FL – As of Monday, Florida Highway Patrol has identified and arrested the hit-and-run suspect responsible for fatally hitting a 19-year-old man riding a bicycle.

New details from the Tampa Bay Times indicate that the suspect, 20-year-old Jaquelin Lopez Velasquez from Mulberry, had turned herself in at the Tampa Florida Highway Patrol office on Monday, Nov. 25.

To recap, the crash took place before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, on eastbound S.R. 674 west of 4th Street. Immediately after the bicycle and Lopez Velasquez’s red Dodge Charger made contact, the cyclist, a man from Guatemala, succumbed to fatal wounds.

Lopez Velasquez immediately fled the scene and left some car parts behind, which was used as evidence to try and locate her.

Once Lopez Velasquez turned herself in, authorities booked her into the Hillsborough County Jail, and she is set to be charged for leaving the scene of a crash that resulted in a fatality.
